The campaigns are fun, but the multiplayer is where this game reveals its immortality. I found myself reading old WW2 tactical manuals and then using those tactics to my enormous delight. "Use a volley of smoke to mask your AT gun positions... when crossing a bridge, infantry should storm across boldly and establish a bridgehead for the armor support to follow." This game is a good balance between arcade playability and historical realism, I feel like it's underrated.. Even better than the first one, now vehicles can be damaged instead off being either dead or alive. Also unit info is more detailed, and while in game, when selecting units, you can see the thickness of the armor on the different facing of the vehicles, instead of just a number based on how strong the armor is.If you liked the first one, you will love this one !. A lot is packed into a deceptively simple interface. Gameplay may appear basic, but there's a lot of data being managed for every move, every shot, every unit. It takes careful planning to be successful and even then units may perform unexpectedly. Easy to learn but takes some time to master, and even then there's no guaranteed wins. I've really enjoyed this game. There are many campaign scenarios packed in (I also bought the Kursk DLC). Most of these are relatively well balanced, although a few will cause you to try several times to scrape a win out of them.I wish there was a way to direct units further than just one turn's movement, or to group units to move together. but these are minor wants (and because many maps are relatively small, they matter less than on a larger playing area). My only serious disappointment is in the weak skirmish mode. I've enjoyed the quick battle setup, but the game modes and terrain types are rather limited. Winter or not; urban, wilderness or farmland only. No artillery or air support I can see in them. No entrenchments, no mines. Would have preferred a more robust skirmish feature. and I wish they had a means to link BA1 and BA2 battlegrounds so we could mix units and terrains. But the rest is rock solid.I started playing board wargames in the mid-70s, and have played many, many computer variants as well. Based on my experience, BA2 doesn't compromise on good game techniques and policies to present a solid, highly replayable game.. Actually both games Battle Academy and Battle Academy 2: Eastern Front are quite similar in terms of gameplay. The difference between them only some better graphical presentation in case of BA2, and some additional features and units. It's worth to buy both games becase they content isnt overlapped. BA2 is a continuation of historical campaigns BA1, but in more advanced graphical form.Game itself good for beginners, it teaches gamer how it's better to manage troops on battlefield.. I've logged 18 hours on this game so far and plan to get to 100 in the next couple of months. I simply can't get enough of this World War 2 tactical sim. It has it all: Every flavor of infantry and every type of Tank, Assault Gun, and APC. It even allows you (and the AI) to call in Artillery Strikes and Air Strikes. While it is turn-based IGO-UGO, units belonging to the player who is not moving get reaction fire, so moving up to the enemy's position is tricky. You need to maneuver properly, using ground cover and even smoke to cover your approach. A little prep fire from your tanks, mortars and artillery isn't a bad idea either. ;-)The AI is way better than average and at the normal level will give even the best player a bloody nose if they are not careful. The game ships with several campaigns (2 as the Germans, and 2 as the Russians) and a skirmish mode so that you can fight random battles, so there's a ton of play time right out of the box. I'm playing the first campaign as the Germans and I'm 18 hours in and about half done. The publisher has also promised more content down the road. Each battle in the campaign so far has had a unique flavor. These aren't just the same battle fought over and over. And the historical context makes you feel like you're actually there, facing the challenges that a Commander in World War 2 would have faced.I have played most WW2 tactical games and believe that this is the best of them all. If you enjoyed Steel Panthers, Squad Leader, Close Assault, Conflict of Heroes, you will want to pick up this game.Highly Recommended!. brilliant game, closest experience to Steel panthers and asql I have seen.. like wargames? you will probably like this.kind of plays like combat mission, close combat, and x-com in a blender. deep gameplay, you wouldn't guess by looking at it. random map generator is great. only negative is i wish the multiplayer had the option of staying in game inbetween turns so you don't have to go in and out of the battle to make your next move. other than that the game is fantastic. Fun game. It's very easy to learn the basics, but on the other hand the missions are quite challenging. No technical problems so far. Totally worth its money. Until the 19th of september the game is on sale for a reduced price.
